Q:  How is TFSA different from the National Rifle Association (NRA)?

A: The NRA is a large organization with incredibly broad objectives and services, whereas we consider TFSA to have a much simpler, direct mission of providing free, nonpolitical firearm safety education and training.

Q:  What does it mean to be “nonpolitical”?

A: As a 501(c)(3) public charity, we are prohibited from engaging in any political activities, but we have taken the extra step of adding provisions to our articles of incorporation which prohibit us from taking ANY position on ANY question of public policy. We take this extremely seriously and do not want anyone to feel marginalized or judged based upon any political views they may have. We educate on what the laws are, not on what they ought or ought not to be.

Q:  Do I have to know anything about guns before I attend one of your events?

A: Absolutely not. In fact, the less you know about firearms, the more we want you to come!

Q:  Do I need to bring my own gun?

A: No, we will have a variety of loaner firearms for you to choose from.

Q:  Does your training apply to rifles, shotguns, and handguns?

A: No, we only train in handguns.

Q:  Will I be able to try out other handguns?

A: Yes. During the range portion of the class each student will have a turn at each of five stations. Each station will have a number of handguns to choose from.

Q:  Will I be mocked for flinching at the sound of gunfire?

A: Not at all. If you are nervous about how loud the gun or powerful the recoil will be, you are exactly the kind of person we want at our events!

Q:  Do I have to be a novice to attend your events?

A: We teach about more than just how to shoot a gun, so we believe that people of all skill levels can benefit from our class!

Q:  Are your events really  free?

A: Yes. However, in our first year we experienced a consistent problem of people registering but not showing up for classes, so we have had to institute a $25 registration deposit which is refunded to each student in cash at the end of the class.

Q:  How can I stay updated on when your next classes will be held?

A: There are a number of ways you can stay up to date on our events. You can follow us on our Facebook, subscribe to our newsletter, or you can reach out to us at tnfirearmsafety@gmail.com
